At Song Hotel Sydney, a new kind of hotel room is rethinking how hospitality spaces are designed and experienced.
Created in collaboration with DIY and upcycling designer Jaharn Quinn, The Reclaimed Room is less about a traditional makeover and more about a new way of thinking. It shows that thoughtful design does not need to start from scratch and that reuse can feel refined, fresh, and elevated.
With more than 25 years of experience, Quinn reimagined the room using existing pieces, second hand finds, and upcycled details to create a space that feels warm, inviting, and modern.
“I wanted the room to feel calm, easy, and lived in, a place to settle into after a busy day in the city,” says Quinn. “It is also about showing how reclaimed materials can work beautifully in commercial spaces and where hospitality design should be heading.”
The design is simple and measured. A reworked armchair finished in vibrant red fabric paint becomes a focal point, while refreshed bedside tables and vintage pieces sit comfortably alongside original elements. Nothing feels over styled, and guests are invited to slow down and connect with the story behind each detail.
For Song Hotel, the collaboration reflects its broader purpose. As Australia’s first not for profit hotel, every stay contributes to YWCA Australia, supporting women through housing and leadership programs. Partnering with Quinn brings sustainability, creativity, and social impact directly into the guest experience.
“In an industry driven by constant newness, The Reclaimed Room offers a different perspective,” says Song Hotel General Manager Jon Ackery. “It positions reuse as a creative opportunity that adds character, reduces waste, and meets the growing demand for more value led travel.”
